Description
The Performance Technologies / Ziatech ZT 6981 CompactPCI to CompactPCI Extender Card uses the DEC 21052
bridge chip to extend the CompactPCI bus to the front of a
CompactPCI chassis for development and debug. The bridge
isolates the CompactPCI bus from
extra loading due to the longer signals on the card and therefore does
not reduce the capability of the
overall system.
Because PCI bridges are not symmetrical, CPUs are not supported
on the extender card. The bridge is
a 32-bit device so only the 32-bit PCI
bus is supported. There are certain devices that
must reside on the primary PCI bus
and these will not work with the
ZT 6981. This includes IDE interfaces in compatibility mode and
many PCMCIA-type interfaces.
Two connectors are loaded on the
ZT 6981. One is the CompactPCI
male connector found on CompactPCI backplanes and the other is the
PCI connector used in PC
motherboards. This second connector can be used to test desktop PCI
designs in CompactPCI systems
prior to porting to CompactPCI.
The mechanical arrangement is not
designed for anything other than
lab use.
